General Data Protection Regulation
Since June 14, 2019, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) has been in force in Portugal, following the parameters of the European Union, which establishes new rules for the processing of personal data by individuals and companies, public and private. This includes limits on the collection, storage, use and sharing of this information.
The law will apply whenever data processing activities (a) are carried out in Portugal and throughout the European Union (EU); (b) aim to offer and supply goods and services in Portugal or throughout the EU or to individuals located in Portugal; and (c) include information collected around the world.
In general terms, the GDPR seeks to ensure greater security, privacy and transparency in using personal data and prevent it from being exposed to loss, deterioration, improper access, or even being used for purposes other than those for which a person agreed to share their data.
